On March 5, the Lady Rams lacrosse team suffered their first loss of the year, falling to rival Shippensburg by a final score of 14–11. Kayla Dalzell had a game-high four goals to pace the Red Raiders, and teammate Amanda Krok added two goals and three assists while Courtney Kennedy added four helpers.
It wasn’t all doom and gloom for Shepherd as Erin Phelan scored a team-high three goals for Shepherd. Both Christina Ferrara and Georgia Karr added two goals, while Hunter Morris, Hanna Wharton, Haley Price and Theresa Lang all added single goals. Junior goaltender Lily Schmulowitz had seven saves on the day.
Shippensburg began the contest on a six-goal run and took a 7–5 advantage into the locker room at halftime. The Red Raiders began the second half on a 6–1 run, taking control of the contest. Shepherd stormed back, but it wasn’t quite enough.
The team got back onto the winning track when they took on Tiffin University in Tiffin, Ohio, winning by a final score of 13–7. Eagan and Karr both turned in incredible performances for the Rams as Eagan scored four goals and added an assist while Karr recorded a hat trick and added an amazing five assists. Anne Arundel County, Md. native Hunter Morris scored twice and added a helper while Phelan and Ferrara both scored a pair of goals. Urbana High School graduate Hanna Wharton added an assist, as did Theresa Lang.
Tori Nelson led Tiffin with three goals while Gina Abulone added a pair. Lily Schmulowitz recorded eight saves for Shepherd while Jessica Bombard had 15 saves for the Dragons. It was a demolition of a performance by the Rams, proving their skill from the get-go.
In their final game of the week, the Rams emerged victorious in a goal-fest between themselves and Findlay College. Winning by a final score of 19–18, the game was not an example of the kind of game that goalies dream about. Karr scored five goals and recorded a pair of assists while Phelan scored three goals and added two assists. Morris scored three goals as well and added a single assist. Ferrara and Eagan each added hat tricks, while Jenny Cavey scored a goal and also recorded three assists. Haley Price scored a goal and Courtney Schwiegerath added a helper. Schmulowitz added five saves on the day. Despite their loss, Findlay actually held a shot advantage over Shepherd.
The victory saw the Rams record improve to 5–1. Their next matchup is against Lenoir-Rhyne. If the beginning of the season is any indication, the Rams look to be in for a very successful campaign.
