Ideas for Spring Dates

The weather is finally warming up at Shepherd and love is in the air. Whether you already have a special someone or are asking your crush out for the first time, make it a really special date. Best of all, you can spend as little or as much as you want to treat your honey this April. Check out some of these cute, fun, and cheap dates!

* Go on a picnic

Picnics are easy to put together and cheap, but they really show your loved one that you care. Fill a basket with some sandwiches, iced tea, and cookies and head to one of Jefferson County’s romantic parks. At Morgan’s Grove Park, you can eat at a picnic table in the shade or lay out with your meal on a blanket under the sun.

* Take a dip in the river

The ocean is a bit of a drive for a Saturday swim, so put on your bathing suit and walk down to the river for a fun and refreshing day. Harpers Ferry is another great swimming destination with lots of rocks to lie out and sunbathe on. Make sure to wear waterproof shoes to avoid stepping on fishhooks or sharp rocks.

* See a drive-in movie

Pack your sweetheart and some of your friends in the car and head to the drive-in movie theatre in Stephens City, Va. Tickets are only eight dollars a person, so you can also enjoy some hamburgers and popcorn for that classic drive-in experience.

* Play a sport together

If you and your other half are the athletic type, you can head down to the park for some games. Play some flirty football, volleyball, or even Frisbee. Then you can head over to the playground and see who can swing higher.

* Go hiking

Take advantage of the beautiful mountains surrounding Shepherdstown by hiking them. You can bring some trail mix to enjoy at the top of Maryland or Loudon Heights. Then take a picture together to remember how sweaty you got.

* Go on a trip to D.C.

Another fun idea is to hop on the train and ride into D.C. for a really fun day. You can visit all of the Smithsonian museums for free and enjoy some vendor hot dogs for dinner. Just don’t forget to get on the train back!

* Go on a bike ride

Hop on your bikes and race your sweetie around Shepherdstown one day this spring. You’ll burn calories and have fun together! You can end this date with some smoothies or milkshakes from a shop downtown.

* See a baseball game

Support the Rams on your date by heading to one of their home baseball games. Share some peanuts and cotton candy with your date and cheer on the home team on April 12, 13, 16, 18 or 19.

* Check out a theme park

Theme parks are not exactly cheap, but they are an amazing way to spend the weekend. Take your date to Hersheypark or Kings Dominion and scream your heads off on the roller coasters.

* Decorate Easter eggs

Even if you don’t celebrate Easter, decorating eggs is still a fun and messy way to pass the time. Pick up some eggs and food dye at the grocery store and spend an afternoon painting, dyeing and decorating. Then, you can use them to make egg salad or deviled eggs for a tasty treat!

* Attend a concert or festival

Spring and summer are notoriously known as festival season. Take that special someone to see their favorite band. Or you can check out an art fair or special exhibit. Another option is the Washington, D.C. National Cherry Blossom Festival which is still going on until April 13.
