(THE PICKET)—After more than 70 shows, New York Fashion Week for spring/summer 2016 officially ended the evening of Thursday, Sept. 17.
According to CNN Style and Fashion Week Online, the NYFW events lured 125,000 people to the city to be a part of the events. The cost of the shows this season was $15 million more than last year, putting the total at $900 million.
This season marked the first year that NYFW was not held in the famous Lincoln Center. Instead, shows were scattered all over New York City.
Marc Jacobs took the runway Thursday night to end fashion week with a patriotic bang.
The designer is known to make his seasonal shows not about the fashion, but about the experience. This show for spring 2016 was no exception.
The designer took inspiration from the 40s, putting models in suits printed with faces of famous actresses from the era.
Mixed in with the 40s inspiration were some long sleeved American flag T-shirts, denim jackets covered in patches and worn out collegiate sweaters. There is no question that Jacobs wanted red, white and blue to be a constant theme throughout the show.
Jacobs put more color and sequins on his gowns than we are likely to see from any other designer all awards season.
Although NYFW is over, London Fashion Week has just begun.
Designers like Eudon Choi, Jasper Conran and Holly Fulton will take the London runway as well as designer brands like Burberry.
