Gary Young to Speak About MLK

Award winning author, broadcaster and columnist Gary Younge will visit Shepherd on Nov. 18 to deliver a lecture based upon his recent book “The Speech: The Story Behind Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Dream.”

The lecture will be held in the Byrd Center for Legislative Studies at 7 p.m. with a reception to follow. The event is free and open to the public.

Younge currently works as a columnist for The Guardian and The Nation. He also serves as the Alfred Knobler Fellow for The Nation Institute. Aside from his new book, he is the author of three previous volumes.

Born in England, Younge left at the age of 17 to teach English in Sudan but returned to study French and Russian at Heriot Watt University. He now lives in Chicago with his wife and son.
