A Shepherdstown man died Sunday when the car he was a passenger in struck the stone wall at the intersection of N. Duke Street and W. Campus Road, according to the Shepherdstown Police Department.
Robert Johnson, 36, died after being transported to Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg. The car’s driver, Demetrius Steele, 28, was transported to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, with injuries that were non-life-threatening, according to Shepherdstown chief of police Mike King. His condition is unknown at this time.
Speed was a contributing factor in the crash. Other factors are under investigation by the Shepherdstown Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
