(THE PICKET)– The Shepherd Rams lacrosse team took on Wilmington University in dominating fashion on Thursday at Ram Stadium after coming off a gruesome defeat against Mercyhurst on Wednesday. The Rams played to the potential that their fans were used to seeing and added their first win to the scorebook. This was Coach Jenny Cavey’s first collegiate win. Shepherd took down the Wildcats 24-9.
Shepherd kept with the basics, bringing in 13 of 20 draw controls to keep in the first half. That allowed them to play at their pace and keep control of the game. The Rams came out strong scoring 15 goals in the first half. Savannah Shores and her defense held the Wildcats to only four goals before halftime.
The Rams continued to bring the pressure in the second half, scoring nine goals. Casey Hickman held Wilmington to five goals.
The Rams shared the glory with 11 different players scoring. Haley Price led the Rams with five goals. Brooke Hunley and Courtney Matthew both scored four goals. Theresa Lang scored three while Kiana Miller scored twice, her first goals of the season.
Alex Green, Kelsey Phelan, Erin Phelan, Taylor Hicks, Sarah Wendt and Chrissy Jarboe all scored once. Jarboe’s goal was her first of the season.
The Rams sit at 1-4 on the season. They will wrap up their three-game home stand on Sunday when they host Edinboro University of Pennsylvania at 1 p.m.
