(THE PICKET)– The Shepherd University Women’s Basketball team traveled to the University of Charleston for the first round of the Mountain East Conference Tournament on Tuesday. Rams lost to the Golden Eagles 73-84. This loss puts an end to the Shepherd season with a final record of 7-22 overall and 6-16 in conference.

Charleston had the lead going into halftime, 41-33. A break in the action wasn’t enough to bring the Rams back to life. In the fourth quarter, the Rams got within two points on four occasions, but couldn’t muster what it took to bring home the win. The Golden Eagles held the lead for the entirety of the game.

Morgan Arden led her team with 37 total points. Liz Myers added 15 points, four steals and six rebounds. Kristen Nunn added five steals for the Rams.

While the season did not go how most expected, there were a few individual bright spots for the Rams with the individual successes of the two players who earned their spots on the Mountain East Conference Team. Arden and Myers have been assets to the team for the entire season and were recognized by more than just their fellow coaches and teammates.

Arden was selected for the second team, leading the Rams in scoring with a 19.8 average. This scoring average is the second best per game mark in program history. She also tops the team in three-pointers with 43, as well as overall three-point field goal percentage of .430. She is one of the team’s top free throw shooters with a .865 mark. Her 553 points are the most ever by a Shepherd sophomore.

Myers, who was selected as an honorable mention choice, paces the Rams with 8.3 rebounds per game, 36 blocked shots, and two steals per game. Her 13.7 scoring average is second on the team. She ranks third on the team in field goal percentage with a .452 mark.

The Rams will now gear up for off-season training and look forward to next year.
