An Insurgent movie review

Insurgent fits the description for every other young adult movie and novel out there: a bad guy that thinks he’s doing the right thing, heroes fighting the oppressive systems of their government, a love story and agonized teenagers.

Despite the cliché and typical set up, I loved the movie, and I recommend it to fantasy, young adult junkies alike.

The movie begins with Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) as fugitives, hiding from Erudite leader Jeanine (Kate Winslet). Tris and Four must find out what her parents were hiding and died trying to protect. The search leads to shocking alliances, discoveries and betrayals.

Insurgent includes almost nonstop action, impressive special effects and surprising twists and turns. Throughout the movie, I was on the edge of my seat, shaking my leg in anticipation for what was to come next.

I especially enjoyed the dream sequences that Tris experiences later in the movie. The special effects with the floating building that catches fire impressed me. The scenes within the dreams that Tris thinks are real blew my mind. I couldn’t stop myself from asking the person next to me if what was happening was real or not. Those scenes could come off as confusing, but they’re explained nicely.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Insurgent had the right amount of action, tear jerking moments and shocks to keep me entertained for the entire two hours.
