A Stroll Across Africa: An Experience for All Ages

Shepherd University is hosting National Geographic’s “Giant Traveling Maps” once again in the Storer Ballroom and the Wellness center, giving kids in neighboring elementary and middle schools the chance to explore the continent of Africa. The vinyl 26′ by 35′ floor map presents the opportunity to learn Africa’s geography in a fun and interactive way that a smaller map wouldn’t be able to do as successfully. National Geographic loans out maps of North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Pacific Ocean to gives kids in kindergarten through eighth grade the opportunity to stand on and move around a map, giving them a better sense of where areas and landmarks are located around the world.

In addition to the map, activity stations are set up for students to compare the geography of Africa to other continents.
