This week’s Student Government Association meeting contained brief discussions regarding Glow Rage’s Paint U, the recent power outage, and the upcoming Relay for Life.
The campus-wide power outage on Monday, Jan. 23, was addressed, and some SGA representatives expressed concern with conflicting messages coming from teachers and rave alerts. One representative said that her professor continued teaching after receiving the rave alert canceling east campus classes. Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Tom Segar said that rave alerts should be followed by professors and students and that he would “send an email to teachers asking that students absent from class on Tuesday from noon to 4 p.m. not be penalized.”
Representatives of Relay for Life reminded the SGA of the upcoming April 7 event. The annual event raises funds for the American Cancer Society and features food and games including trivia, lip synch battles, and musical chairs.
Glow Rage’s Paint U event on Jan. 20 hosted by the Program Board was a success, said SGA Secretary Kahlen Browning. The dance party event held in the Wellness Center consisted of music from DJs and machine washable paint sprayed on the audience from a stage. “We are planning to bring the event back next year,” he said. Surveys will be emailed to students that attended to receive feedback to improve Paint U for next year.
