(THE PICKET) – The Shepherd Rams volleyball team dropped to a 5-7 record after the Wheeling Jesuit Tournament. The Rams played against Kutzown University and Slippery Rock University on Friday, Sept. 18, and against Seton Hill University and Shippensburg University on Saturday, Sept. 19.
Shepherd lost to Kutztown one game to three. Rams struggled after winning the first set 25-16, then losing 16-25, 16-25 and 17-25.
Senior outside hitter Taylor Allen had 15 kills and 14 digs, while senior outside hitter/libero Samantha Scrogggins had 14 kills and 12 digs.
Freshman setter Cyera Dixon had 39 assists for the Rams and sophomore libero Kelsey Anderson topped the board with 20 digs.
Kutztown was led by Jessica Howe with 15 kills and Audrey Stringer with 14 kills.
In the second game of the tournament, Shepherd swept Slippery Rock with a three set shutout. The Rams kept the game close winning 25-23, 25-23 and 30-28.
Allen had 17 kills and 14 digs on the match, while Scroggins had 15 kills and 13 digs.
Dixon had 39 assists and Anderson had 23 digs for the Rams.
Slippery Rock University’s Leah Jones had 14 kills and Lamija Alisic had 16 digs.
Rams lost to the Seton Hill Griffins 15-25, 13-25 and 22-25 for their third game of the tournament.
Scroggins led the Rams with 16 kills and six digs. Dixon added 17 assists and Anderson had 11 digs.
Cassie Hausfeld led the Griffins with 10 kills and seven digs.
Shepherd posted a 2-3 loss against Shippensburg University for the last match. Shepherd started out strong winning the first two sets 25-16 and 25-17, but fell 25-16, 25-18 and 16-14.
Scroggins had 18 kills and 14 digs while Allen had 15 kills and 18 digs to lead the Rams. Dixon recorded 42 assists and Anderson had 16 digs.
Megan DeFloria had 12 kills while Megan Peluso had 20 digs and six aces for Shippensburg.
The Rams hit the court for the first home game against Glenville State College at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, at the Butcher Center.
