(THE PICKET) – Walking arm in arm with Republican president candidate Mike Huckabee, Kim Davis was released from jail on Tuesday, Sept. 8, under the conditions that she not interfere with deputy clerks issuing same-sex marriage licenses in Rowan County, Kentucky.
As the doors opened and Davis appeared at the Carter County Detention Center, the song, Eye of the Tiger, by Survivor was playing as supporters cheered.
Davis, crying, walked to the podium with lyrics, “It’s the thrill of the fight, rising up to the challenge of our rival, and the last known survivor, stalks his prey in the night, and he’s watching us all with the eye of the tiger,” blaring.
Davis’ supporters couldn’t have picked a better song to prove that her defiant behavior from the beginning, claiming her personal beliefs wouldn’t allow her to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, was all part of a bigger, attention- seeking plan.
“Still we take to the street, for the kill with the skill to survive,” the lyrics continued.
Stalks his prey in the night and for the kill with the skill to survive, correct me if I am wrong, but I don’t think that is very Christian-like, Ms. Davis. As a self proclaimed devout Apostolic Christian and elected official, you should not be stalking your prey or killing with skill. If you do have certain beliefs, they should be kept private, and not made a public matter. Thousands of taxpayer’s dollars were likely wasted not only for the court costs, but for housing and food while Davis was jailed.
The group, Survivor was quick to note that they did not grant permission for the song to be used and they did not share the same views as Davis.
“I have not authorized the use of Eye of the Tiger for use by Kim Davis and my publisher will issue a C&D. This does not reflect my views,” Jim Peterik, musician and songwriter for the band, Survivor said in a Tweet on Tuesday.
The Academy Award goes to Kim Davis, Huckabee, her attorney and her husband, dressed in a straw hat and bib overalls for their dramatic statements on the stage to the cheering, cross-wielding crowd. I can’t help but think Huckabee is using this event as political propaganda for his campaign and Davis’ claim to fame.
While being jailed, Davis and her attorney’s worked on an appeal that included allowing same-sex marriage licenses in Rowan County, but Davis’ name would be struck from the paperwork.
If that was an option, Davis should have offered that from the beginning and saved these same-sex couples and taxpayers the heartache, time and money.
According to the Associated Press, Davis is due back in her office as early as Friday or possibly Monday, after spending a few days with family.
Have your voice heard! What do you think? Do you agree with the court allowing Davis’ release pending she does not interfere with the deputy clerk’s work? Do you think Davis should have stayed in jail?
