On Saturday, April 6, the Shepherd University Rams split a pair of games against the Notre Dame College Falcons, winning game two of the doubleheader 6-4.
Sophomore first baseman Alexandra Witt had two home runs, including a game-winning three run shot in the ninth inning. She went three-for-five with four RBIs.
The Rams got their first run in the top of the fourth after senior third baseman Savannah Snyder scored after freshman Sarah North stole second base. Sophomore outfielder Paige Buckworth added an RBI double to make it 2-0 after four innings.
After Witt’s fifth inning home run to make the score 3-0, the Falcons evened the game, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Notre Dame would score one more run in the ninth inning for their only other run.
Sophomore Tara Hanson pitched a complete game, going nine innings and allowing 12 hits, four runs, two earned and five strikeouts. She improves her record to 6-4 on the season.
The Rams lost game one to the Falcons 3-2.
Shepherd’s only two runs came on two swings of the bat, thanks to Alexandra Witt. She hit a solo home run to left in the top of the second and another solo shot in the top of the seventh.
The Rams were trailing going into the seventh inning before Witt’s second home run. The Falcons got the run back when third baseman Kayla Sidorski reached on an error to end the game.
Sophomore Kirsten Barstad took the loss, going 6.1 innings and giving up eight hits, three runs and seven strikeouts. She is now 5-4.
Shepherd is now 11-10 and in eighth place in the Mountain East Conference.
