Lacrosse Raises Record to 7-4

The Lady Rams routed West Virginia Wesleyan 21–9 in a game during which 10 members of the team were able to execute on scoring opportunities and pick up goals.

Mixing up the offense is definitely something that the Rams need to be able to keep doing moving forward. Having multiple players who can put the ball in the net will make it much more difficult for opposing defenses to simply key on a few players who pose a threat on their goal.

Hunter Morris also added an assist to go along with her already impressive stat line. Junior attacker Georgia Karr was another main contributor to the victory, scoring three goals (all coming in the first half) and leading the way with a game-high four assists.

Shepherd fell behind early in the game facing a 3–1 deficit, but the Rams were able to put together a strong rally to take a commanding 15–6 lead into the half. This eventually helped lead to a 21–9 victory in favor of the Rams.

The Lady Rams held a 39–15 advantage in the shot total and also held a 16–11 edge in ground balls. The Rams improved their record 7–3 on the season before returning home for Saturday action where they hosted Millersville right at home in Shepherdstown, W.Va.

The team suffered a heart-breaking, last-second loss to Millersville at Ram Stadium on Saturday, April 5. Hannah Vogel of Millersville was able to produce five goals of her own throughout the whole game, the last of which was a goal of the unassisted variety which came with all of the 22 seconds left in the contest. This goal saw Millersville win the contest by a final score of 15–14.

Sophomore midfielder Erin Phelan and senior midfielder Jenny Cavey led the way for the Rams as they each scored three goals throughout the matchup. Phelan added two assists to go along with her hat trick tally in the goal department. Karr was a main contributor throughout the game, putting two goals in the net along with two assists that led to other goals that the Rams scored.

Sophomore attacker Morris and senior midfielder Christina Ferrara were able to add a pair of goals each. Kelsey Eagan and Courtney Schwiegerath each recorded a goal in the defeat.

The loss came in a game that saw Shepherd hold the 36–30 edge in shots and a 16–15 edge in draw control. Millersville held the 31–25 advantage in ground balls.
