The Shepherd University women’s lacrosse team had their first scheduled game of the week on Saturday, traveling along I-70 to take on the Blue Knights of Urbana University. The Rams dominated the first half, taking a nearly insurmountable 16–0 lead into the interval.
Unfortunately for Shepherd, the game was called at halftime due to a snowstorm and whiteout conditions, otherwise known as an unsafe playing environment. Shepherd is still awaiting the word on if the game will count or be designated as no contest. It would be a bit of a farce should the game be recorded as no contest. The team really put forth quite the effort, and a result of no contest would be tragically unfair to a team that was not only up by 16 at the half, but a team that traveled over six hours to meet up with their opponent. Statistics from the game were not available at press time.
Despite the decision to call the game, some of the Rams lacrosse players have had very solid seasons insofar. Junior Georgia Karr is pacing the Rams in every offensive statistic, scoring 30 goals and assisting on 23 others for an impressive haul of 53 points thus far. Hunter Morris has scored 22 goals, Erin Phelan has 21 tallies, and Christina Ferrara has scored 19 times on a shooting percentage of 65.5 percent. The Lady Rams are having very little issue with putting the ball in the net, which can be evidenced by the amount of times they scored against Urbana before the game was called due to the adverse conditions.
The Lady Rams were scheduled to take on West Virginia Wesleyan at West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday but the game has been postponed until Monday at 3 p.m. due to the inclement weather. Hopefully the Rams’ long trip to Ohio will have not been for nothing.
