(THE PICKET)—The Shepherd Rams football team comes into the game against the Glenville State Pioneers this Saturday, Oct. 10, ranked number 10—up six spots from last week’s rankings.
The team comes into the game with a record of 4-0, beating their opponents 172-49 for the season.
On the offensive side, the Rams have been averaging 43 points a game and 452 yards a game. The Rams’ passing attack is led by junior quarterback Jeff Ziemba, who has thrown for 1,094 yards and 11 touchdowns for the season. Ziemba’s favorite target so far has been Billy Brown, who is averaging just under 100 yards per game. The Rams’ ground game is led by a pair of great runners—Allen Cross and Jabre Lolley—who are both averaging 65-plus yards a game and have combined for five touchdowns this year.
The defense is led in tackles by Keon Robinson with 30 and Jaylen Johnson with 25. Myles Humphrey and Shaniel Jenkins lead the team with three sacks each. Along with Robinson and Humphrey, the rest of the Rams defense has helped the team allow the fewest points in the conference, only permitting 49 this season.
The Pioneers come into Saturday’s game with a 4-1 record, with their only loss being a nail biting game ending in a 30-31 score against the University of Charleston in week three.
Glenville State’s offense is averaging an amazing 510 yards a game against their opponents this season, coming in with a very balanced offensive attack. Quarterback Sean Steele leads the passing game; Steele has 1,358 yards and 13 touchdowns, averaging just over 271 yards a game. Steel’s favorite targets are wide receivers Dante Absher and Ralph Gordon, who both average 75-plus yards a game and have combined for 10 touchdowns. On the ground, the Pioneers are led by Rahmann Lee, who averages 163 yards a game, has rushed for 835 and has had six touchdowns.
The Pioneers defense comes into their sixth week of play giving up an average of 364 yards a game to their opponents and giving up 130 points this season. Glenville State’s most complete defender is Ian Andrews, who has recorded 22 tackles, 12 of them being for a loss of yards, and six sacks this season.
The Rams and the Pioneers will kick off at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.
