Women’s Lacrosse Off To Flawless Start

Starting a season off strongly helps lay the foundation for a season filled with success. The Shepherd University women’s lacrosse squad has done just that, starting their season with three wins and no losses. On a team filled with experience, that should be expected.

Senior midfielder Christina Ferrara netted five goals and dished out an assist, while junior Georgia Karr set a school record with seven assists to go along with three goals, which helped pace the 27–0 rout of Alderson-Broaddus.

Sophomores Theresa Lang and Hunter Morris each added three goals, freshman Brooke Hunley added four goals, and sophomore Erin Phelan added a goal and two assists. Freshman Kiana Miller of nearby Boonsboro, Md. added two goals, while Haley Price, Hanna Wharton and Courtney Schwiegerath added a goal and assist. Jenny Cavey, Alex Green and Carrie Maggio all added a goal.

Shepherd outshot Alderson-Broaddus 55–2. Alderson-Broaddus faced a bombardment of shots from the Rams, to put it lightly.

Karr put together another great performance against Wheeling Jesuit, tallying four goals and three assists while Morris would match Karr’s goal total and add an assist as well. Phelan recorded three goals and two assists, Ferrara scored two goals, and Haley Price netted one goal and dished out an assist. Wharton, Schwiegerath, Green and Hunley added a goal each.

The Rams would defeat Wheeling-Jesuit by a final of 18–12, which saw goalie Lily Schmulowitz record seven saves.

This past Saturday, the Rams took on Chestnut Hill. Shepherd emerged victorious by a score of 14–11 and was paced by the strong play of Phelan who scored three goals and added one assist. Karr and Morris each scored two goals and added an assist, Green scored two goals, Theresa Lang and Hunley both scored a goal and added an assist, while Cavey, Wharton and Price each scored a goal. Schmulowitz added six saves for the Rams.

The Rams will host Shippensburg on Wednesday, March 5 at 4 p.m.
