Volleyball goes 1-3 in Shippensburg Tournament

The Shepherd University volleyball team traveled to Shippensburg University this weekend for a four-match tournament. Shepherd finished the tournament with a 1-3 record and 3-5 overall.

On Friday, Sept. 9, the Rams took on Philadelphia University and Virginia State University.

Shepherd fell to Philadelphia in four sets to open the tournament. Rams lost 11-25, 28-26, 23-25, 25-27. Both Sophie Foster and Peyton Lindblad had 10 kills to lead the Rams. Foster also recorded four blocks. Kelsey Anderson had 17 digs for Shepherd.

The Rams had a jolt in momentum for their second match of the day. Shepherd downed Virginia State in four sets, winning 25-23, 24-26, 25-22, 26-24. Christine Jackson took control of Shepherd’s offense with 12 kills, while Lindblad added 11 kills and three blocks. Anderson had a match-high 25 digs to contribute to Shepherd’s victory.

The Rams carried their winning drive into Saturday when they defeated UVA-Wise for their second win in the tournament. Shepherd took the match in three sets; 25-17, 25-21, 25-22. Lindblad remained a leader for the Rams with 14 kills and three blocks. Anderson had 18 digs and three aces to benefit the Rams.

The last match of the tournament for Shepherd was against the host team, Shippensburg. The Raiders hit the Rams with a defeat in four sets. Shippensburg took command of the first two sets, 25-10 and 25-14. The Rams came back in the third set 25-20 and then were defeated 25-19. Lindblad and Jaila Bell recrded nine kills each for Shepherd. Anderson had 15 digs.

The Rams will host Indiana University of Pennsylvania for their home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Butcher Center.
