Two students were arrested and criminal complaints were filed with magistrate court in Charles Town, West Virginia, according to Owens.

Sean Weant, of Thurmont, Maryland, was charged with two counts of battery on a police officer, obstructing a police officer, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

Jefferson County Magistrate William Senseney set Weant’s bond at $3,000, which was posted on Nov. 16.

Evan Onestinghel, of Vienna, West Virginia, was charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct and obstructing a police officer.

Senseney set bond for Onestinghel at $1,000. Bond was also posted on Nov. 16.

“We can advise that a public disturbance occurred on campus on Saturday. Two persons believed to be responsible for the fire extinguisher discharge are the same two who were apprehended in H Lot,” Owens said.

Fire department units from West Virginia and Maryland responded to a reported building fire in Dunlop Hall at 2:18 p.m. Saturday.

“It appears it was a discharge of a (fire extinguisher) in the hallway by a rambunctious college student,” said Shepherdstown Fire Department EMS Chief Marshall DeMerritt.

DeMerritt said no fire was found and no injuries were reported in the incident that lasted approximately 25 minutes.

Shepherd University Police Officer David Kelvington was the charging officer according to court records.

Both students have been assigned other magistrates to follow the cases.
