Student Dies in Motorcycle Accident

Christopher Michael Files died of injuries sustained from a motorcycle crash on Oct. 25 in Martinsburg.

According to the Hagerstown Herald, Files was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His motorcycle hit a boulder after leaving the road near the Spring Mills area of Berkeley County.

Files was a 2006 graduate of Shepherd and had returned this semester to seek additional degrees in business administration and accounting.

Dr. Tom Segar, vice president of student affairs, sent an email to faculty and staff on Oct. 30 stating he was “deeply saddened” to release the news of Files’s passing to the Shepherd community.

Files’s wife, Michelle Fravel Files, serves as an adjunct professor in the accounting department.

A service was held on Oct. 31. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Files’s name may do so to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the Berkeley County Humane Society.
