The Shepherd Rams (9-11,7-1 MEC) split a two game series against conference opponent West Virginia Wesleyan (6-14, 5-3 MEC).
In the first game, the Rams defeated the Bobcats 7-4. Behind an RBI-double by sophomore Brian McCourt and a sacrifice fly by freshman Brenton Doyle, the Rams jump to and early 2-0 lead in the second inning. With momentum on their side, the Shepherd Rams added four more runs in the third inning behind a two-run homerun from Chase Hoffman and an RBI-double from Brenton Doyle. JJ Sarty also contributed with a RBI single.
The Bobcats would not be denied and would rally. Wesleyan was able to get on the score board as a Hunter Rotarius was hit by a pitch and would later score on a single by Dominic Castello.
Scoring three runs in the seventh inning, the Bobcats felt like they were back in the game, but Senior Brandon Kirk put the game away after blasting a solo-shot homerun.
Junior Ryan Panash (7.0 IP, 9H, 4ER, 7 K, 1BB) earned the win for the Rams.
The Rams and Bobcats would play again. This time, thing were a little different. Wesleyan jumped to an early three run lead in the third inning on just five hits. The Bobcats would do 3-3 at bat in the fourth inning to extend the lead 6-0. The Rams tried to fight back adding a solo homer from senior Sarty and an RBI-single from senior Ron Farley. With much effort given, the Rams could not cut the lead. With a two home runs and and RBI being hit, the Bobcats were able to seal the victory.
Senior pitcher John Bentley (4.0IP, 8H, 6 R, 5 ER, 1 K, 2 BB) took the loss for the Rams.
The Shepherd Baseball team is back in action on Tuesday, March 28th, for a double-header home contest against Shippensburg at 1 p.m.
