Midfielder Kelsey Eagan had a game-high four goals in Shepherd's 17-3 win over UVa-Wise on Saturday, April 4.

Shepherd Lacrosse dominates UVa-Wise

In their second ever Mountain East Conference game, the Shepherd Rams impressed once again, topping the UVa-Wise Cavaliers 17-3.

“They showed a lot of maturity and patience,” Shepherd coach Meghan Keelan said. “They worked so well together, it was like they could read each other’s minds.”

The Rams shut out the Cavaliers 12-0 in the first half. After 49:10, junior goalkeeper Savannah Shores came out of the game after allowing one goal and recording one save.

Senior attacker Georgia Karr scored four goals on four shots. Attacker Kelsey Eagan and midfielder Erin Phelan each added four goals as well.

Sophomore midfielder Haley Price and junior attacker each had two goals.

The Rams dominated in shots taken, taking 35 shots compared to the Cavaliers’ six shot attempts.

“Our offense can take some risks knowing that if they lose it, it will be coming back quickly,” Keelan said.

Shepherd is now 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the MEC. Their next contest will be against the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals, who was projected second in the preseason coaches’ poll in the conference.

“They have the best chance to give us a run for our money,” Keelan said. “We have to be quick, aggressive and make them play our game. If we dictate the tempo, we’re hard to keep up with.”
