Rams volleyball team wins against UVA-Wise and Concord

(THE PICKET)—Rams volleyball hosted UVA-Wise on Thursday, Nov. 12, and Concord University on Friday, Nov. 13, and won both matches.

Shepherd downed UVA-Wise in four games, 26-28, 25-18, 25-23 and 25-17.

Senior outside hitter Taylor Allen had 15 kills and 10 digs to pace the Rams. Sophomore outside hitter Amanda Snowden contributed 12 kills and freshman middle blocker/right side Sophie Foster added 10. Freshman setter Cyera Dixon posted 50 assists with 10 digs, while sophomore libero/defensive specialist Kelsey Anderson recorded a team-high 15 digs.

Karlie Allen had a match-high 19 kills and 16 digs to lead UVA-Wise. Erin Anderson added 17 digs.

Shepherd hosted Concord for their senior night, and shut down the Roar in three sets, winning 25-21, 25-21 and 12-25.

Allen had a match-high 14 kills and eight digs. Christine Jackson, middle hitter, had 11 kills and six blocks, while freshman setter Becca Kern had four aces. Senior Anna Roper added five blocks while Dixon contributed 34 assists and seven digs.

Brooke Heck led Concord with six kills, and Erin Shannon had 10 digs.

“We’re just now getting healthy, and right now we have our full team back. The seniors are playing a strong roll,” coach Hoekstra said. “We’re very excited going into our conference tournament being as healthy as we can.”

Although the bracket for the tournament has not been released, Hoekstra said, “We beat the fourth best team in the conference last night. The second and third team we’ve lost to in five each time we’ve played them. We think we’re very capable of making a deep run in the tournament.”

The Rams volleyball team ended the regular season 14-16 overall and 8-7 in conference play.
