Rams Disappoint at Hal Hansen

Sometimes, the middle of the pack isn’t all that bad.

At the Hal Hansen Invitational that was recently held at Clarion University in Clarion, Pa, the Shepherd University Rams Men’s Golf team did very little to assuage worries about how the team would perform during their inaugural Mountain East Conference campaign.

Out of the 11 institutions that competed, Shepherd placed 10th. However, Shepherd posted a total three day score of 39-over-par, only four strokes off of ninth place and 10 strokes from fifth place. Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) finished as the winner, posting an impressive 7-over-par. Freshman Joe Burkinshaw was an impressive player for the Rams, posting a two-day score of 147. Senior Zach Weber also played very well for the Rams.

The Rams will compete in a conference tournament Charleston, W. Va Sept. 16-17. Hopefully the golf squad will post better numbers than they did during the Hal Hansen. Head coach Keith Radar is looking to see a big improvement out of his squad.

After the two-day long tournament in the capital of the mountain state, the Rams will turn their attention to the Northern Mountain East Conference Regional, in Moundsville, Ohio at the end of September. After the regional tournament has been completed, the Mountain East Conference Championships will commence in Nashport, Ohio. This tournament will take place in the middle of October.
