Professor Heidi Hanrahan for Shepherd University was recently named a finalist for the West Virginia professor of the year award alongside four other professors from different universities.
On April 9 the Professor of the Year will be announced at a banquet in Charleston and will receive a glass trophy award as well as a $10,000 prize, smaller awards will be given to the remaining finalists.
Dr. Hanrahan is a Professor of English at Shepherd University and is the faculty advisor for the English Honor Society Sigma Tau Delta.
“It’s wonderful, it’s been really a nice honor on this campus especially because there are so many people here who are just as worthy,” Hanrahan said about being a finalist.
Hanrahan as worked and done many events with the local community, such as working with her colleague Dr. Carrie Messenger on a Jane Austen Tea Party with the Shepherdstown Public Library. Hanrahan as also done events like Poetry Festival in Shepherdstown with the help of Sigma Tau Delta.
“I always look for ways to help students grow in, and indulge in, their love of literature and connect the classroom to the world,” she said.
Dr. Hanrahan just hopes to make shepherd proud.
“I feel like coming this far is reward enough and I’m excited to meet the other finalists,” she said.
